About the Saving Electricity website

Who's responsible for this?

Saving Electricity is authored by one person, me, Michael Bluejay.  Here's more about me.

How do I contact you?

Here's the contact page.

What's the story of the site?

I started the site circa 1999 to help members of a student housing co-op (where I lived) lower their utility bills, and their pollution footprint.  As such, Saving Electricity is probably the oldest site about that topic on the whole Internet.  As it got popular I added more content for the general public, which made it get more popular, so I added more content, etc.

What help do you offer to the press?

  • How to refer to me.  Most articles just say something like "Michael Bluejay, who runs a popular website about saving electricity...."  I'm not a blogger, and this site is not a blog.  Finally, "Bluejay" is one word, not two, and the "J" isn't capitalized.
  • Avoiding common mistakes.  Journalists frequently get things wrong when writing about saving electricity.  For example, there's no such thing as "watts per hour".  I have a whole article on how to misquote this website.
  • Answering questions.  I no longer answer questions from the general public but I'm happy to do so for the press.  Just contact me.
