Natural Foods Grocery Stores in Austin

    Wheatsville Food Co-op (3101 Guadalupe, 478-COOP, 7:30am-11pm every day)

Deli features numerous vegetarian & vegan items, as do the grocery isles. The store's general manager is vegan, as are many of the staff. Most produce is organic. Wheatsville is much cheaper than Whole Foods. As a co-op, it's owned by its members (though anyone can shop there, member or not). A huge number of the staff are in local bands.

Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers (3901 Guadalupe, 323-5100)

All the natural and veg*n products you'd expect, and they compete aggressively on price, especially on produce (all of which is organic).

    Whole Foods Market (601 N. Lamar 476-1206, & 9607 Research 345-5003)

Whole Foods is a national chain that originated in Austin. The stores are huge. The selection is better than Wheatsville's but the prices are higher. Whole Foods is the subject of some controversy for aggressively swallowing up smaller competitors, labor violations, greenwashing, opposing unions, and more.

    Central Market (4001 N. Lamar, 206-1000)

HEB's version of a natural foods store.

    Royal Blue Grocery (609 Congress,  360 Nueces,  and 247 W. 3rd)

A tiny grocery, just a step up from a convenience store, but they have many of the standard natural foods and veg*n products you'd find in a larger store.

    Sun Harvest (2917 W. Anderson 451-0669, & 4006 S. Lamar 444-3079)

Mainstream store with good selections of natural foods and bulk items.
